Tallinn Public Transport - 2026


Tallinn has one of the best public transport networks in the Baltic region.


Transport Types

  • Bus (Buss): Wide coverage of all city districts
  • Tram (Tramm): Five main lines in the city center and surrounding neighborhoods
  • Trolleybus (Trolleybuss): Zero-emission electric buses
  • Suburban Train (Elron): Connects Balti Jaam station to Tallinn suburbs

  • As of 2025, no diesel buses operate in Tallinn — the entire fleet is electric or trolley-based.


    Operating Hours

  • Network runs 6:00 – 23:00
  • Night buses (Night Bus) run only on Friday and Saturday nights from 00:30 – 03:30

  • Ticket Prices for Non-Residents (2026)

  • 1-hour ticket: €2.00
  • 1-day ticket: €4.50
  • 3-day ticket: €7.50
  • Daily cap with Ühiskaart: €5.50 (never pay more than this per day)

  • Free Transport for Tallinn Residents

  • Free public transport is only for residents with a registered address in Tallinn
  • Tourists and those not registered in Tallinn must purchase tickets
  • Children under 7 travel free when accompanied by an adult

  • How to Buy Tickets

  • Contactless bank card (Mastercard, Maestro, Visa) on orange terminals inside vehicles
  • Ühiskaart public transit card (€3 deposit)

  • Ticket machines at the airport, central bus terminal, and tourist centers

  • Important

    The ticketing system is based on random inspection. Always validate your ticket when boarding or face a €40 fine.

    Tartu is served by buses only — the network covers all city neighborhoods. Registered Tartu residents travel free.

  • 1-hour ticket (with smart card): €1.50
  • Daily ticket (residents): €2.50
  • Daily ticket (non-residents): €3.75
  • 5-day ticket: €12.75
  • The system automatically calculates the cheapest applicable fare

  • Seniors aged 64 and above
  • Persons with severe disabilities

  • Tartu Bus Card (Bussikaart)

  • Available at R-Kiosk and authorized retailers
  • Valid in Tartu, Tallinn, Narva and most other Estonian cities
